Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Do I bring my pets to your home for this service?
No, we are not a boarding service. We will visit and take care of your pets in your home. This allows your pets to stay in their own familiar surroundings.
Will my pets and I meet you before the service starts?
Yes. The first step is to schedule a free introductory orientation in which we will meet and complete the contract. We will discuss and write down all the details of their diet, exercise and medications so their daily routine is not changed.
How far in advance do I need to schedule my visits?
It is best to contact us as soon as you know you will be going away to ensure availability. Keep in mind that holiday seasons fill up fast.
Will you clean up after my pet?
Yes. This service is included in the fee. If a pet is sick or has many accidents, we may make additional visits to try to keep them clean and healthy. These additional visits will be charged the normal visit fee and you can pay for the additional visits once you have returned from your trip.
What if my pet becomes ill?
If your pet is seriously ill, every effort will be made to contact you first. Our priority is your pet’s health and safety. We will make sure that your pet will be seen by your vet or an emergency vet.
To this end, it is your responsibility to leave a typed, signed and dated statement on file with your vet as to what limits, medical and financial, that you would agree to in the care of your pets, should they require medical care while you are out of town and are unable to be reached for a decision. Some vets may ask to keep your charge card number on file with them in case charges are incurred in an emergency. You are asked to leave a copy of this statement on the kitchen counter for us to keep on file.
Although we have rarely had to use this information, it always good to be prepared for the unexpected.
My dog has a tendency to bite when encountering people he doesn't know or new situations. He's just anxious. Would pet sitting visits in my home be best or would it be best to take him to a kennel?
All dogs cope with strangers and new situations in their own way. If you are concerned about biting, then you should place the dog in the safest situation where he can do himself and others no harm. This could mean having him stay with family members that he's comfortable with or safeguarded in a familiar kennel facility.
Why is an in-home pet sitting service preferable to a kennel?
Your pets are more comfortable in their familiar surroundings; they receive personal attention and love; it’s more affordable for you; and you can feel good knowing your beloved pets are receiving the best care possible while you are away.
